Registration Opens for 2026 WSCIJ Amplify Media Conference

The Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism (WSCIJ) has opened registration for the sixth edition of its Amplify In-depth Media Conference and Award (AIMCA), scheduled to take place from December 8 to 10, 2026, in Lagos.

The three-day event, themed “Truth. Power. Rights. Journalism at the Heart of Democracy,” will bring together journalists, policymakers, academics, civil society organisations and other stakeholders to discuss the role of journalism in strengthening democracy in the digital age. In a statement, the centre said registration would run from November 6 to 27 through its website.

Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka, who serves as the centre’s grand patron, has confirmed his participation and is expected to deliver remarks at the conference. Discussions will focus on the relationship between journalism, information and artificial intelligence, as well as corruption, accountability, democracy and human rights.

The sessions will also examine challenges facing the media, including disinformation, declining information integrity, restrictions on freedom of expression, shrinking civic space and threats to journalists’ safety. The programme will feature keynote addresses, plenary sessions, investigative journalism showcases and practical masterclasses.

The event will also host the 21st edition of the Wole Soyinka Award for Investigative Reporting (WSAIR), which recognises outstanding work in television, online, radio, print, photography and editorial cartoon categories. The award ceremony is scheduled for 6pm on December 9, while conference sessions will begin at 9am daily.

According to WSCIJ, the conference and award have been held together since 2022 to promote professional development, collaboration and recognition of journalism that exposes wrongdoing and serves the public interest. The centre said the 2026 edition would also encourage stronger partnerships among media organisations, public institutions, civil society groups and academic institutions while promoting ethical, independent and sustainable journalism.

The conference will commemorate International Anti-Corruption Day and Human Rights Day, observed on December 9 and 10, respectively. WSCIJ has invited journalists, media executives, technology experts, researchers, policymakers, development partners and members of the public to register before the November 27 deadline through its official conference portal.
